The 2024 Balfour & Houldsworth Competitions are open for entries

The Balfour Cup and the Houldsworth Cup have been held every year since 1897, apart from the War Years. The GS Lancashire competition was first played in 1921 and more recently in 2005, the Balfour Seniors Cup was added to the annual B&H Golf Competitions.

Worsley Members "Bing Home" the Seniors Balfour Cup

The Seniors Balfour Cup was instigated in 2005 by Worsley member and Balfour and Houldsworth Chairman, John Farmer. So, it was a real case of “bringing it home” when it was won for the first time in 16 years by members of Worsley Golf club.

It was looking like a card-playoff between the 69's, but then the Best Nett score of the day was returned by Rehan Ashraf (8.7) of Northenden GC, who posted a 68 nett.

Winners of the 2023 Houldsworth Cup

There were just 4 groups out on the course and 48 points was looking like the winning score, until Graham Butler and Stuart Murphy of Worsley Golf Club, declared that everything had gone well for them and they handed in a card showing 50 points!

In 2022 we celebrated the 125th Year of the foundation of the Balfour and Houldsworth Golf Challenge Cups. On website we have a page entitled "125th Anniversary Competitions" which provides the reports and results of all the 2022 competitions and a selection of photographs, which show the winners and others who joined us on the competition days.
