This is a course where A J Balfour often played when visiting friends in the area. Most of the morning slots prior to 11.00 am have been taken, but there are plenty to choose from around lunch time and early afternoon.
Some golfers may remember the Houldsworth as a tricky Greensome Bogey, but now it is a Better-ball stableford competition for men aged 18 and over.

Bramall Park Golf Club will be hosting the Balfour Cup for the first time in its 128 year history. Bramall Park members won the Balfour Cup in 1959 and 1925, they being M B Turner and R G Varise.
The Balfour Cup is a men's medal competition and there is an upper limit of 14 on the shots available. Andrew Timms (4) had to battle through tough weather conditions to come back with a net 71 at Disley GC in 2024. Let's hope the weather is much kinder for this year's competition.

Taking out the War Years of 1914-1918 and 1940 -1946, when no B&H competitions were played, between them the Balfour Cup and the Houldsworth Cup have been played 234 times at various golf clubs across the Manchester area.
Only one golfer in the history of the Balfour and Houldsworth has managed to win both competitions in the same year. In 1983, J Wright of Altrincham Golf Club won the Balfour Cup at Reddish Vale Golf Club and then, partnering C Goulding, also of Altrincham Golf Club, he won the Houldsworth Cup at Houldsworth Golf Club.
Bury Golf Club has hosted 10 Balfour & Houldsworth Competitions during the past 128 years, but this will be only the second time that it will have hosted the GS Lancashire, the first one being in 1929. The Winners names are on the Honours Board.
The format of the GS Lancs has changed several times and it is now a Mixed 4 Player Stableford Team Event - 2 Ladies and 2 Gents, with the best lady's score and the best gent's score to count on each hole.
The winners of the 2024 GS Lancs were a team from Bury lead by Kevin Speight, the 2025 Captain of Bury GC, as can be seen in the report of the GS Lancs which was held at Crompton & Royton GC.

The Seniors Balfour is a relatively new competition compared with the Balfour & Houldsworth Cups and their 128 year history.
This year will be just the 20th anniversary of the Seniors, which has become one of the most popular events. Nearly 200 players took part in the 2023 Seniors which was held at Worsley GC.
Davyhulme Park Golf Club will be hosting the 2025 Seniors for the first time. The Seniors is a Better Ball Stableford competition for men aged 55 and over. In 2024 a total of £1,300 in prize vouchers was shared among pairs returning the best 6 scores.
The winner will also have their names and the names of their home clubs posted on the Seniors Honours Board.
