2020 Seniors Balfour Cup

A total of 176 players entered the 2020 Seniors Balfour representing 31 different clubs. While Worsley, Stand and Davyhulme golf clubs traditionally provided a large proportion of the field, it was good to see the members of Halifax Bradley Hall and Loben Golf Clubs having "a day out" and supporting the Seniors Balfour in great numbers. 

Swinton Park members once again claimed first place for the third year in a row, despite having only 3 entries, compared to 8 entries in 2019 and 19 entries in 2018, when it was at their home course.

Jim O'Reilly and Alan Leigh set the early pace having teed off at 8.10 in the rain, they returned with 48 points. They were followed out at 8.30 by John Caveney and Martin Hill of Bury Golf Club, who also returned with 48 points. The next best 6 pairs all scored 45 points and third and fourth places were decided on card play-offs.

K Plant and M Moss were part of a group of 21 players on a day out from Halifax Bradley Hall Golf Club, and they took third place with 45 points.  Fourth place went to William Rawsthorne and Mark Bulman of Grange Park Golf club, also on 45 points. The early rain soon passed, and 38 players came in with 40 points or better.

Congratulations go to Peter Clarke of Lobden Golf Cub, who sank his tee-shot for Hole-in-one on the 3rd green.

A total of £800 in Prize Vouchers were awarded to pairs to share and spend in the Pro's shop:

First - £300: Second - £250: Third - £150: Fourth - £100.

Because of the Covid-19 restrictions which were in place, it was not possible to hold a presentation immediately after the competition. It was decided that the Balfour Seniors Cup would be presented to the winners at their home club some-time after the event.

The 2021 Seniors Balfour will be played at Denton Golf Club for the first time on 12th August 2021. The Tee-sheet is now open for those who would like to secure their preferred times.
