Balfour & Houldsworth
We are the Balfour & Houldsworth Golf Challenge Cup Committee and our purpose is to encourage and promote amateur golf within a 25 mile radius of Manchester Town Hall.
Originally the radius was set to 20 miles by our founders Hon A.J. Balfour and Sir William Henry Houldsworth in 1897.
We now organise four top-class competitions for amateur golfers each year,
drawn from over 175 golf clubs within the 25-mile radius. The exception being the GS Lancs. This is not included in the 25 mile limit and in 2018 we had a couple entered from South Africa!
We don't have a home course but select the venues from invitations kindly received from local golf clubs.
Our AGM is now held in the spring of each year, at which we confirm venues for the coming years.
Our Committee are all volunteers from various local golf clubs. If your club is interested in hosting one of our events, with our full complimentary event team in attendance to run the competition, please email our secretary, David Haley, secretary@balfourandhouldsworth.co.uk
Book into one of our competitions and hopefully we will see you at one or more of our events or maybe at our AGM.
