| The Balfour Cup | |
| The Balfour Cup Competition in its 117th year was held at Chorlton-cum-Hardy Golf Club on Sunday 25th May. Keith Ralston from Altrincham Golf Club was the winner of the Balfour Cup. The weather conditions were not very good but everyone commented on the great condition of the golf course. The original venue had been Swinton Park Golf Club on the 11th May but due to the atrocious weather for that weekend , the course had to be closed and the Balfour rescheduled. Chorlton-cum-Hardy GC kindly stepped in and offered their course for two weeks later on the 25th May. As this was the Bank Holiday weekend , we had a small reduction in the player numbers. Even so we had 109 entries from 19 local golf courses. All the results can be seen on our website , click on the link on the front page. Next year the committee have decided to change the date by one week and the the Balfour Cup will be held at Northenden GC on Sunday 17th May 2015. This will be available using online booking. |
The Houldsworth Cup | |
The Houldsworth Cup competition was held at Disley Golf Club on 8th June 2014 and local knowledge proved paramount as Disley players scooped 3 of the 5 prizes. The Houldsworth cup has been played for since 1897 and it was fitting that Disley hosted the event as they are celebrating their 125th anniversary this year. We had 148 players representing 17 golf courses They won the card playoff from Chorlton cum Hardy players Other prize winners were :- The top 64 players results have been published on this website. Our next event is a mixed 4 Ball Better Ball stableford being held at Davyhulme Park on Sunday July 13th. |

| The GS Lancashire Trophy | |
 | The G S Lancashire Trophy in it's 90th year was held at Davyhulme Park Golf Club on Sunday 13th July. The winners were home players Paul Barton and Janine Fox with 44 points. In second place with 43 points were Freddy & May Parks from Swinton Park GC and next were Paul Jones and Carol Batchelor also from Swinton Park GC with 42 points. More home players Grant & Sally Stuffins were 4th with 41 points and Val & David Mawson from Chorlton cum Hardy GC were also in the prizes with 40. Just beaten in a card playoff were M Rigby & Leslie Bates also from Swinton Park GC. The Lady Captain of Davyhulme Park, Jenny Page who won the trophy in 2011, helped with the presentation. There were 128 golfers representing 20 different golf clubs. A list of some of the top scores can be viewed using the link on the Home page. After suggestions from some of the players, the committee are to consider changing the event into a Greensome Stableford for 2015 and this will be held at Worsley GC. |

| Junior Balfour and Junior Trophy Winners | |
The Junior Balfour in its, 61st year has been won by Worsley Under 16 golfer Tyler Smith. The competition was 18 holes singles medal playing off the yellow tees at Ellesmere Golf Club on Sunday the 17th August. Tyler managed his round very well in extremely windy conditions and scored a terrific nett 67, playing off 6. Second in the Junior Balfour was U19 player Liam Garry from Blackley GC with a nett 70. The Under 16 trophy also produced a very good score of 70 from Alex Walker a 5 handicapper from Rochdale GC and the runner up was Lewis Holland from Disley GC who also finished on par with 70. The Balfour and Houldsworth Committee would like to thank all the entrants to the Junior Balfour and the Under 16 trophy and we hoped you all enjoyed your day. We also hope to see you and your friends at next years event at Sale GC. As the number of entries weren't as high as expected, we are considering changing the date to early September and are hoping to improve the awareness of all of our competitions for next year. The committee would also like to thank everyone at Ellesmere GC for the hospitality and the help we received with the running of our competition and the excellent condition of their course.
